“Udpluk” – Mix & Master

I got this assignment by Anna while she was living on the other side of the planet, so organising meetings was a bigger challenge than anticipated.

Anna wanted the mix/master to be down to earth and non-intrusive. Anna really liked the idea of “a mixed album that doesn’t sound like its been mixed” and is just her raw songs. I achieved this specific sound with the recording technique that was used, The album was recorded with 1 microphone by her mouth, 1 by her guitar and 2 microphones in a a/b setup outside of the room for natural reverb. Mixing this was a fine balance between raw and mixed. I had to find the sweet spot where it sounds good on speakers, but not so “polished” so you lose the “human” quality of it. She wanted her small mistakes to be in the album, so the listener was more connected with her and her messages.
