Five Nights at Freddy’s Re-Sound Design

Full re-sound design of the first night in Five Nights At Freddy’s

Sound Design

My main focus with this re-sound design was to add more punch to the scares, and to make easier auditory hints of where the animatronics would be hiding.

One of the instances where i tried to make the hints easier was introducing “aggression levels”. As an example at 1:44 at the pirate cove Foxy’s Banjo theme is playing, as he is still in place, far away from the player. However at 4:36, when Foxy is out to hunt the player, the banjo theme is distorted, flanged and saturated – that is to show the player that they need to take action now or they meet their demise.

Horror design

I’ve made the speech section longer than in the original game. The thought process behind was to keep the player focus away from the dangers, as they are listening to information they believe to be important.

Absence of information and absence of action were two key factors I kept in mind while designing the sound.

I reached a balance by having some auditorial cues that could help the player, but kept them somewhat hidden. This makes the player more tense as they really have to focus on their actions and the game sounds. If the don’t – they could lose the game.
